Moment for Morricone, la pieza que la BEMR ha estado interpretando la pasada temporada, es un medley basado en cinco temas de Ennio Morricone que allá por el año 1980 arregló Johan de Meij, temas que pertenecen a dos bandas sonoras de películas del Oeste dirigidas por Sergio Leone, como son Once Upon a Time in the West y The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Nacido en 1928 y habiendo elegido la trompeta como su principal instrumento puede ser considerado uno de los grandes compositores y arreglistas de música de películas y series de todos los tiempos. Compuso la música de más de 500 series y películas e hizo muchos arreglos y adaptaciones. Estudió trombón y dirección en el Conservatorio Real de La Haya.
Entre sus composiciones las más conocidas son las bandas sonoras de películas del Oeste y, especialmente, la denominada trilogía del dólar, esto es Per un pugno di dolari (1964), Per qualche dollari in più (1965) e Il buono, il bruto, il cattivo (1966). Sin embargo, si tenemos la osadía de otear el horizonte, bajar del caballo y alejarnos del salvaje oeste, descubriremos a un Ennio Morricone mucho más rico. Desde la banda sonora de la, comprometida políticamente, película La battaglia di Algeri, partitura firmada conjuntamente por nuestro Morricone y Gillo Pontecorvo y cinta que desde estas humildes páginas recomendamos para una sesión de cinefórum; o las tres bandas sonoras, hermosos cuadros musicales, que nos transmiten la magnéticamente cálida magia del desierto con temas como Saharan Dream, Secret of the Sahara, Il Principe del Deserto, Il Deserto dei Tartari,… etc etc etc y, aunque parecería obligado, no vamos a hablar de las altamente conocidas Cinema Paradiso, La Misión, The Untouchables, Once Upon a Time in America… No lo haremos; en su lugar vamos a recomendar otra banda sonora de peli de cinefórum: Novecento (con su Romanzo, tan hermoso que dan ganas de llorar), la terrorífica The Thing, la bellísima La Califfa (toda ella), las sensuales Canone Inverso o La Notte e Il Momento, la increíble Nostromo, y hala, porque se nos antoja y nos toca la venita musical The Legend of 1900 con sus tintes jazzísticos. Pero no queremos quedarnos en bandas sonoras y, para terminar, y terminar malamente pues el gran Ennio merece mucho más que estas líneas, os dejamos con una recomendación especial que no es otra que el disco Chamber Music con el que podréis disfrutar de ese otro, que no es otro que él mismo…. Moment for Morricone, the piece that the BEMR has been performing last season, is a medley based on five songs by Ennio Morricone that Johan de Meij arranged back in 1980, songs that belong to two Western movie soundtracks directed by Sergio Leone, such as Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Born in 1928 and having chosen the trumpet as his main instrument, he can be considered one of the great composers and arrangers of music for films and series of all time. He composed the music for more than 500 series and movies and did many arrangements and adaptations. He studied trombone and conducting at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
Among his most well-known compositions are the soundtracks for Western movies and, especially, the so-called dollar trilogy, that is, Per un pugno di dolari (1964), Per qualche dollari in più (1965) and Il buono, il bruto, il cattivo (1966). However, if we have the audacity to scan the horizon, get off our horse and walk away from the wild west, we will discover a much richer Ennio Morricone. From the soundtrack of the politically compromised film La battaglia di Algeri, a score jointly signed by our Morricone and Gillo Pontecorvo and a tape that we recommend from these humble pages for a cineforum session; or the three soundtracks, beautiful musical scenes, that transmit to us the magnetically warm magic of the desert with songs like Saharan Dream, Secret of the Sahara, Il Principe del Deserto, Il Deserto dei Tartari,… etc etc etc and, although it would seem obligatory, We are not going to talk about the highly known Cinema Paradiso, The Mission, The Untouchables, Once Upon a Time in America… We will not; Instead we are going to recommend another soundtrack from a Cinefórum movie: Novecento (with its Romanzo, so beautiful that it makes you want to cry), the terrifying The Thing, the beautiful La Califfa (all of it), the sensual Canone Inverso or La Notte e Il Momento, the incredible Nostromo, and hala, because we feel like it and the musical vein The Legend of 1900 touches us with its jazzy overtones. But we don't want to stop at soundtracks and, finally, and end badly because the great Ennio deserves much more than these lines, we leave you with a special recommendation that is none other than the Chamber Music album with which you can enjoy that other one, who is none other than himself... Ennio Morricone.
